About UC Irvine Emergency Medicine Residency

UC Irvine's Emergency Medicine Residency Program is a fully accredited, university-based program that offers aspiring physicians a unique and exciting training opportunity at UC Irvine Medical Center, a Level I trauma center. We receive more than 48,000 patient visits annually, ensuring that residents are exposed to a variety of traumatic injuries; we are also a stroke center, cardiac center and burn center. Our program incorporates every aspect of emergency treatment, from pre-hospital care through patient assessment, stabilization and therapeutic intervention.

We are proud to offer a special educational model: a one-on-one apprenticeship, with every emergency department patient presented to an emergency medicine department faculty member, never to another resident. As such, our residents receive the highest level of personal supervision and learning from each case.

UC Irvine Emergency Medicine Department is heavily involved in educational technology and leveraging social media for education and learning. In 2012, the Department of Emergency Medicine at UC Irvine became the first in the nation to give iPads to all of its residents, which facilitated the implementation of the online curriculum. Since then the residency has incorporated bidaily twitter teaching points, developed an extensive iTunes U video library with thousands of subscribers, developed an iPad curriculum for its residents and established an Education and Instructional Design fellowship – the first of its kind

The creation of a visual diagnosis library is a natural extension to provide another educational adjuvant for emergency medicine residents and physicians. We hope this will provide learners with quick and easy learning points to add to their knowledge base in an interesting media that is easy accessible.
